Getting started
Three steps
① In Sources & Index, add the folders with your photos, videos, recordings and documents, or use “Help me find my photos”. ② Let it build the index; you can search while it works. ③ On the Search page, describe what you’re looking for in a sentence.
Everything stays on your PC
Your photos, videos, recordings, documents and their index are processed and stored only on this computer. The index is encrypted and the app never goes online.
Graphics card or not
With an NVIDIA card, indexing takes about a second per photo. Without one it still works, just slower, and it slows itself down while you’re using the computer so it won’t get in your way.
Language
The app follows your Windows display language: Chinese if Windows is in Chinese, English otherwise. Change it under Settings → Appearance & language. You can search in either language.
Searching
Describe it in a sentence
“The beach video from last year with loud splashing.” “Photo of a circuit board with part numbers.” “The part of the meeting about quarterly revenue.” Times (last summer, last month, March 2024) and types (photo, video, recording, document) are picked up as filters, which you can remove with a click.
Exact matches
For part numbers, IDs or names that must match exactly, use quotes, like "STM32F407". Text in photos, words spoken in recordings and document contents are all searchable.
By file name
Patterns like *.pdf, IMG_*.jpg or ext:docx search by file name only.
Search by image or sound
Click “Search by image” and pick a picture, or pick a recording or video to find similar-sounding parts. After taking a screenshot, press Ctrl+V in the search box to search with it.
Wrong results
Click “Not this one” in the details panel and it will rank lower in similar searches. When nothing is found, it suggests which filter to drop and how many results that would give.
Shortcuts
Quick search bar
Call it up from any app with a shortcut (change it in Settings). Enter opens, Ctrl+Enter shows in folder, and clicking elsewhere hides it.
Main window
Ctrl+K Search · Ctrl+G Gallery · Ctrl+M Moments · Ctrl+I Sources & Index · Ctrl+, Settings · F1 Help.
Meeting recordings (Pro)
Recordings meet slides
Once a meeting recording or screen capture is indexed, it finds the matching PowerPoint or PDF and works out how long each slide was discussed. When a search hits a slide, it jumps to where that slide was being talked about.
Zoom, Teams and others
Add the folder where local recordings are saved as a source.
Draft minutes
In the player, open the Presentation menu → Export draft minutes (Word). Each slide gets a section with its image and the transcript of what was said.
FAQ
Does it need the internet?
No. The installer includes all the AI models, and once installed it works fully offline.
A file can’t be found
Check Sources & Index first: is the folder added, has the file been indexed, is it in the error or skipped list? Images received in chat apps may need to be saved out first.
Indexing is slow
The first index takes longest; after that only new and changed files are processed. You can pause any time from Sources & Index or the tray menu.
Where is my data?
The index is on your own PC (by default in your user’s app data folder), and you can move it to another drive in Settings. When uninstalling, you choose whether to delete it.
New computer
Install on the new PC and enter your activation code again; codes aren’t tied to one machine.
Something went wrong
Settings → Security & maintenance → Export diagnostics, then send the zip to support@threebrook.com. Folder and file names in it are replaced, and it contains no photos or text content.
